For her television special "Follow Me, Sammi Cheng and Heifer's Journey to Yunnan Mountains" for nowTV, Hong Kong singer-actress Sammi Cheng travelled to the mountain regions recently to raise awareness about the impoverished condition of the area, reported Singtao.
The show documents Sammi's own experiences living and working with three local families who have received the assistance of Heifer International, a global organisation that provides livestock, plants and agricultural training to the needy.
The actress described one of the families that have received the assistance of Heifer International as "Before, the Cao family was broken up as both Mr. and Mrs. Cao had to go away most of the year doing odd jobs to put bread on the table. However, Heifer International was able to reunite them by providing them with livestock to be raised in their own home. They now own 30 pigs and harvests, and can now take care of themselves."
The "Blind Detective" actress, who is also known for her humanitarian work in the Third World, also applauded the organisation's efforts, saying that not only did the programme benefited families, it also inspired these families to help others too.
