It was reported that on 5 June, reporters who was in Hengdian to cover the filming of her new drama, "Lucky Treasure", caught the casual-looking Bernice, who was accompanied by her personal assistant, entering a hotpot restaurant nearby Hengdian World Studios, and sat at an obscured table.

The actress was texting on her phone when about 10 minutes later; a well-built man in his 30s came in and calmly sat down at her table. Bernice then ordered for the curtains to be drawn and the pair ended up communicating in Mandarin and having dinner for approximately two hours.

The pair then left the restaurant separately. Bernice and her assistant left the premises a few minutes earlier and went back to their hotel but the man was also reportedly staying at the same hotel, albeit on a different level.

Bernice has recently been mocked by many when her former boyfriend Moses Chan announced his marriage to actress Aimee Chan. It was a huge blow to the still single Bernice, whose other ex-boyfriends, Hawick Lau and Alastair Lam, have also found replacements for her, which are mainland actress Yang Mi and architecture heiress Carol, respectively.
