As reported on Groove Asia, Jacky, who held a press conference to announce the release of his "Jacky Cheung ½ Century Tour" concert DVD on 19 July, was asked about the secret to his success in maintaining his popularity and relevance in the industry.

The singer joked, "I am not a good looking man, so even 'rumours' won't come near me!"

He quipped that his lack of handsomeness is a gift, as people had to listen to his singing because there are no extra features to distract their attention.

He stated, "When I first debuted in the industry, I was probably the 'worst' among the newcomers of that generation. Other than my singing ability, I lacked in all other department. I didn't have the looks or acting talent. Perhaps that is the reason why they pay attention to my singing!"

On a more serious note, Jacky said, "Since I knew I wasn't good-looking, all I could do was put more effort into my singing and performances on stage. Of course, as soon as you're able to achieve a lot of things, people start to like and support you. I think I have been able to stay this long because of the fact that I was ordinary."
