The first Media Asia 3D martial art film THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) yesterday attended the Beijing trailer press conference. Director Andrew Lau Wai Keung, producer Peter Chan Ho Sun led the cast including Shawn Yue Man Lok, Chris Lee Yuchun, Huang Xiaoming, Jing Boran, Purba Rgyal (Pu Bajia) in attendance.
Yesterday everyone appeared in black. The director and the producer presented the cast with special 3D glasses. Then everyone with almost 1,000 members of the media and fans watched some of the trailer. Lau Wai Keung said that earlier he did not plan on 3D, but after editing the producer thought that with 3D it would be even better. Thus they spent a lot of time on the 3D post production. The director said, "Although the legend said that December 21 would be the end of the world, we would be fine. Everyone would be welcome to watch the film to celebrate."
Lau Wai Keung also pointed out that the actors all suffered because the location took a long time to arrive. In addition their costumes were very heavy. Jing Boran for example everyday yelled at himself to ride better. Yue Man Lok in another riding scene had 50 horses in pursuit. If he fell it would have been very dangerous. Lee Yuchun had it the worst as he personally slapped her.
Yue Man Lok pointed out that Hong Kong directors were known for being mean, but Lau Wai Keung had a magic power so he would be gladly scolded. Since they have worked together before they were used to the scolding. Huang Xiaoming also revealed the director's secret, citing that as soon as he saw the director drinking on the set he knew their day would end soon. The director felt that drinking could better actors' performance. Xiaoming said, "The director has two great and two rotten, his personality and directions were great, his liquor tolerance was rotten, his Putonghua was even more rotten." Everyone was holding their belly laughing.
The only female fighter in the film Lee Yuchun was exposed as "sleeping god". Xiaoming said that he had proof, every time she slept he would take a photo. She could sleep no matter when or where. Yue Man Lok also said that after Yuchun felt asleep everyone would take photos with her. Now the photos were in their phones.
