The
2013 Miss Hong Kong Semi-Final was held two nights ago (Aug 25th). Prior to the semi-final, TVB announced the show will be executed in an all-new reality show style, but some Netizens questioned on wheather the show copied
America's Next Top Model and that the show is basically "new but not new". Other viewers complaine the show was too boring and the contest regulation was a mess. Also, this year TVB didn't publicize the number of votes, which led to viewers questioning on its fairness.
The 10 finalists are as follows:

Yesterday the finalists met the press at TVB City. "Miss Gossip" (13) Tammy Ou-Yang was rumored to have borrowed from loan sharks, her rich boyfriend "takes care of her", and she smokes and parties a lot. Yesterday she got even more gossips, an insider exposed she made a fraudulent report that she has a bachelor's degree, but in fact she hasn't graduated yet. TVB shielded this allegation, but Tammy refuted: "I didn't say I finished college, I just finished my freshmen year. If you got the wrong info, then don't try to report it!" The insider also disclosed after she became a finalist, she boasted that she will be joining TVB. Tammy said: "That's ridiculous! Why would I say that out of the blue? Only say something when there is evidence!" She stressed she will not be emotionally affected by these gossips.
TVB Production Director (Non-Drama) Sandy Yu explained in an interview yesterday afternoon that the number of public votes were not disclosed to avoid causing a confusion. Some viewers felt TVB is a "black box" or under the table operation. Sandy said: "There was about a total of 360,000 votes, and about 92,000 voters. We didn't want to publicize the number because voting for the final has already begun. There is an accountant supervising the votes, and actually we do not mind publicizing the number of votes, this information will actually be announced in the final. (It was said Eric Tsang used profanity while recording the show?) I didn't hear it. Actually reporters shouldn't be in while studio recording is taking place." In regards to the contest regulations being a mess? Sandy admitted and will be holding a meeting at once to talk about the shortcomings and believed trying something new will have its "sand and stones".
As recording went into the late night, the contestants all turned ugly, Sandy expressed this year's contestants were comfortable. The "explode" of pimples were probably because some contestants came back to HK from overseas and haven't acclimated yet. She emphasized her confidence in the voting for the final being functional and firmly believed there will not be another server crash. TVB is aware that the public has doubts on the number of votes, last night the company quickly tried to make it up by announcing the top 5 most voted contestants on TVB FUN.
This Sunday, the guest judges for the final includes Raymond Lam, Lina Chung and Oscar Leung as the "Miss Photogenic" judge.
