Few days ago, Paul Wong and Athena Chu hinted via Weibo that they would soon be parents. Returning from a trip back from Malaysia, the couple was met by dozens of reporters at the HK airport and the two of them personally confirmed the pregnancy rumors. During the car ride home after meeting with reporters, Paul Wong was contacted by media personality and radio show host Eileen Cha – in this brief phone interview, Paul reveals a few things that he did not talk about earlier while in front of the reporters' cameras.
Paul recalls a telephone call he had with Eileen just the week prior: "I found out right after I got off the phone with you. Athena told me: 'You're about to be a father!' My first reaction was one of shock – it took me a few seconds to react." Athena was ecstatic and moved to tears while Paul was so happy that he immediately hugged his girlfriend.
Unable to mask his joy, Paul revealed that so far, Athena's pregnancy has been very smooth and 'comfortable' – she has not experienced any morning sickness and so far hasn't gained much weight: "She also didn't have a protruding stomach yet, so it was close to the 3 month mark before she found out."
So far, the biggest physical 'change' Athena has experienced is having a big appetite: "She feels like eating almost every hour and eats a lot too – plus her tastes change every day. For instance, she would have a craving for chicken with rice and that day, she must have chicken – no other food can be substituted; then the next day, her tastes already changed and she feels like eating lamb instead…I would rush around getting the food she wanted – I guess you could say I was quite busy! But I don't mind, since I've taken care of her that way all along, so I'm used to it already."
Earlier in the year, a reporter had asked Paul whether he and Athena were planning to have a 'Dragon' baby – at that time, Paul half-jokingly replied: "Why must it be a Dragon baby? That's Zodiac discrimination!" Now that Athena is pregnant with a 'Dragon' baby, Paul couldn't help but laugh at the irony: "The baby will be born at the end of the year, so will definitely be a Dragon baby -- never thought that I'd be 'forced' to go back on my word."
Asked whether he prefers a boy or a girl, Paul replied: "Boy or girl doesn't matter – most important is that the baby is healthy."
With the unexpected pregnancy, does it affect future work plans? Paul states: "I was originally planning to finish a big music project that I'm working on by the end of the year first, then get married and have kids after that – didn't think that the baby would 'cut in line' so early. However, I am still planning to finish the project first, then get married."
Since both Paul and Athena are avid dog lovers, they have several large Tibetan Mastiffs at home. Paul indicated that in the beginning, he won't let the baby get too close to the dogs, however he is confident that "in the future, they will for sure be the best of friends."
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Wong!

At the scene…
The day before yesterday, Paul and Athena met with reporters at the airport as they returned from a work-related trip in Malaysia. Paul answered reporters' questions on his and Athena's behalf, indicating that the nude photo uploaded on Weibo was taken by their good friend Wing Shya (夏永康). When Athena was asked about her pregnancy before marriage going against her Christian beliefs, Paul stepped in and told that particular reporter: "Ask me instead! If there is an issue, go over to the stairs and we can discuss it!" With that said, Paul cut the interview short and led Athena away to the car waiting for them outside.
