The TVB drama and its cast suffered massive backlash from professionals in the aviation industry Within its first week of broadcast, TVB's blockbuster drama Triumph in the Skies II achieved the station's highest ratings (2.25 million viewers) this year. Despite the record-breaking figures, the series and its cast have been blasted by professional pilots and cabin crew for "damaging their image".
According to media reports, TVB has also received more than 100 complaints about the theme song, which is said to be "unfitting" for the drama.
The pilots in the show, Julian Cheung, Ron Ng and Kenneth Ma, were not spared from the criticism too as a group of professional pilots went as far as to create a Facebook page to point out all the errors in the drama. Some flight attendants have also set up a forum to mock the plot, claiming that the show is an untrue portrayal of the industry.
In response to the backlash, Ron said that the cast was guided by aviation consultants during filming and that he is not overly upset about the comments as all pilots have different styles. "I'll let Julian and Francis Ng handle the pressure," he jokingly added.
On the other hand, Francis, who is currently in Beijing, responded to the reports by saying that "everyone has their own opinions", while expressing his happiness about the high ratings.
